GENERAL RULES

1. No food, beverages and smoking allowed in the library
2. Users are responsible for their belongings. The library will not be held responsible for any acts of theft or losses.
3. Mobile phones may not be used and must be turned off in the library.
4. The library collection is protected by electronic security systems. No publications may be taken out of the library without permission. Legal measures will be taken against those who attempt to take those without permission.

MEMBERSHIP

1. Gazi University academic and administrative staff, all registered students and the members of institutions that signed agreements are eligible to become members of the library.
2. Students may apply for membership at the beginning of academic years.
3. Users who want to become members must fill and sign the Library Registration Form.
4. Members have to inform the Library in the eve of losing their cards or any change in their ID information.
5. Members agree to obey the library rules.
6. Users outside the University may use the library resources, but can not become members of the library.

BORROWING, RENEW AND RECALL

1. You must fill out a “Gazi University Library Registration Form”. Registered library users must present their “Gazi University ID Card” (or their Gazi University Library User Card) to borrow or return books.
2. It is prohibited to borrow books using another member’s ID or library card.
3. Gazi University academic staff may borrow up to 20 books at a time for 60 days.
4. Gazi University students and administrative staff may borrow up to 4 books at a time for 15 days.
5. Gazi University graduated students may borrow up to 6 books for 30 days.
6. Members with overdue books may not borrow new ones until they return the old books and pay a fine.
7. Reference books, audio-visual materials and theses can not be borrowed, used only in the library.
8. Members can renew loan periods provided there has been no request for the materials. Materials to be renewed should be brought to the library.
9. The librarians may ask a user to return any book in case of necessity.
10. Overdue books may not be renewed.
11. Academic staff can renew loan periods from the Gazi University Library Web site or by fax : 202 29 38
12. Students can renew loan periods in person with their library cards and books.

FINES FOR OVERDUE / LOST MATERIALS

1. If borrowed material is not returned on the due date a fine will be charged for each day.
2. Although the library will attempt to notify reader when materials are past due, the borrower bears full responsibility for their timely return.
3. In the case of loss of foreign language book, journal or non-book item, the reader will be obliged to pay its replacement value in Turkish Liras at the Central Bank rate of exchange prevailing on the day of payment, plus % 30, together with the amount owing for late returns as of the date on which the item is reported as lost.
4. In the case of loss of Turkish books: 40 USD eguivalent Turkish Liras will be charged. The payment is to be made according to the official rate of exchange declared by The Central Bank.

LEAVING THE UNIVERSITY

1. Academic and administrative staff that leave the University will not be able to complete their retirement or resignation procedures before returning borrowed materials.
2. To complete the procedures academic and administrative staff must obtain a document from the library clearing them of any dept to the library, which they will present to the Personal Office.
3. Students who have debts to the library may not renew their admission or obtain their diplomas or related documents.
4. Members who leave the University without returning books to the library are referred to the President’s Office for legal procedures.
